Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television reporter, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located in Washington DC. In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. In 1992, she was named Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist and presenter of the TV show Meet the Press. She served as a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over time, including fiscal reform, the budget, and The Iran Contra scandal. She travelled extensively with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
